Woo Mi-jung is a Korean picture-book author and illustrator whose work is rooted in close observation of nature, movement, and the rhythms of life. She studied illustration at Kkokdu Illustration Institute and made her original picture-book debut with The Prairie, a meditative work about birth, death, disappearance, and renewal. In The Mugunghwa Flower Has Bloomed, Woo turns her attention to women’s ssireum, combining the physical tension of traditional Korean wrestling with the symbolic resilience of the mugunghwa flower. Her expressive visual storytelling transforms an unfamiliar sport into a poetic exploration of strength, perseverance, cultural identity, and the courage required to rise again after being thrown down.
