LOGLINE
A pregnant tiger searches for a safe home in a country that celebrates tiger images everywhere but leaves no room for living tigers.
SYNOPSIS
A tiger believed to have vanished from Korea loses her mate to a hunter and sets out in search of the safest place she can find while carrying their unborn cubs. Wherever she goes, people mistake the living tiger for the many tiger-shaped objects surrounding them: statues, trash cans, buses, pajamas, rugs, slides, murals, and souvenirs. Even the zoo, supposedly a refuge for real animals, proves confining and sorrowful. Playful on the surface yet quietly poignant, the story explores extinction, captivity, conservation, and the difference between celebrating an animal as a cultural symbol and truly making room for it to live.

AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY
Jo Myeong-hwa is a Korean picture-book author and illustrator who studied applied art and is active with the Korea Publishing Art Association, the Children’s Culture Promotion Association, and Haneuljigi. She has created and illustrated books that draw on Korean humor, folklore, and animal characters, including The Tiger’s Candy Bouquet. In The Tiger Has Returned, Jo reimagines the tiger not merely as a familiar Korean cultural symbol but as a living animal searching for a place to survive. Her playful spoken-language narration and simple, energetic illustrations make questions of extinction, captivity, conservation, and coexistence approachable for young readers.
