A lone farmer keeps planting seeds in barren desert sands, and one storm-scattered seed proves that patient hope can grow beyond visible failure.

SYNOPSIS

In a landscape of endless sand, a solitary farmer continues planting seeds even as others laugh at what seems like impossible work. Days pass without any visible change, yet he keeps believing that life can someday emerge from the barren ground. Then a violent sandstorm scatters everything he has planted and leaves him convinced that his efforts were wasted. Far away, however, one of those seeds lands in warm, moist soil. With sunlight, wind, and rain, it finally sprouts. A quietly luminous parable about perseverance, patience, environmental stewardship, and trusting that meaningful work may bear fruit somewhere beyond what we can immediately see.

AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY

Uija is a Korean picture-book author and illustrator whose work grew from years of artistic study and life abroad. While living in New York in 2016, Uija participated in a picture-book project organized by Our Golden Hour, and in 2020 completed a master’s degree in Children’s Literature and Children’s Book Illustration at Goldsmiths, University of London. Works include The Farmer of the Desert, Face, and the Louis the Cat series, as well as an illustrated essay about living abroad.
