LOGLINE

A child watches a beloved riverside disappear under development, learning that progress can erase ecosystems, memories, community, and the places that shape us.

SYNOPSIS

A child grows up beside the beautiful Yeogang River, where golden sandbanks, reeds, fish, birds, friends, and family shape everyday life. Then strangers arrive saying they will save the river. Excavators dig into the riverbed, a weir is built, the shallow water deepens, fish and reeds disappear, and the community begins to leave. Told through lyrical memories of a place that can no longer be recovered, this ecological picture book asks what is lost when development transforms nature in the name of progress.

AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY

Park Chan-hee is a Korean children’s writer whose restrained storytelling often approaches large social and environmental questions through a child’s point of view. In River, Stay With Me, she turns the transformation of the Yeogang River into an intimate story of memory, loss, and ecological responsibility. Jeong Rim is a Korean picture-book artist who works as a professional illustrator while also teaching creative drawing. Her warm, lyrical images have appeared in several children’s books, including works published by BookGorae. Together, Park’s understated prose and Jeong Rim’s poetic visual language give the environmental changes along the river a deeply personal emotional weight.
