Gwak Yeong-mi is a Korean children’s author and scholar born on Jeju Island. She earned a doctorate in child and youth studies at Sungkyunkwan University and has worked as a researcher and lecturer while writing extensively for children. Her books include Run, Cleverly!, The Day I Hated My Brother, Self-Made Family, and Fantastic Duo. Ban Seong-hui is a Korean illustrator whose work includes numerous historical and children’s titles such as Ma Hae-song, The Young Master, Counting the Stars: Yun Dong-ju, The Red Cloth, and Mireuksa’s Treasure. Together, they combine historical research and expressive illustration to illuminate Baekje society through friendship, illness, social class, and the building of Korea’s oldest stone pagoda.
