Lee Hyun-joo is an award-winning Korean picture-book author and illustrator whose work is known for delicate imagery, understated prose, and a close attention to everyday life. Her debut picture book Grimi’s White Canvas received an Opera Prima distinction at the 2012 Bologna Ragazzi Awards. She has since written and illustrated books including Like a Tree, The Summer I Loved, the Winter You Loved, The Second House, and Found It! Her work repeatedly returns to growth, family, memory, and ordinary surroundings, transforming familiar scenes into reflective visual narratives. Like a Tree is especially autobiographical, using the long life of a tree to observe how people and places change over time.
