LOGLINE

Sinclair moves between light and darkness, guided by mysterious Demian, until guilt, fear, and loneliness crack open a path toward his authentic self.

SYNOPSIS

This visually striking adaptation of Hermann Hesse’s classic follows young Sinclair as he moves between the safe, orderly world of home and the darker world that fascinates and frightens him. A lie places him under Kromer’s control, leading to guilt, fear, and theft, until the mysterious Demian enters his life and changes his direction. Yet Sinclair’s struggle is not over. Through loneliness, temptation, reflection, and transformation, he eventually begins to recognize himself. By depicting the characters as frogs, the adaptation makes Hesse’s themes of identity, awakening, courage, and becoming one’s true self accessible through bold visual storytelling.

AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY

Hermann Hesse was a German-Swiss novelist, poet, and Nobel Prize laureate whose works explore individuality, spiritual searching, and the conflict between social expectations and the inner self. Demian remains one of his most influential coming-of-age novels. Yong-dal is a Korean picture-book author and illustrator who studied art, design, and illustration before developing a distinctive career in visual storytelling. His original works include The Magic Scissors, while he has also illustrated numerous books for young readers. In this adaptation, Yong-dal reimagines Hesse’s characters as frogs, using bold imagery and compressed storytelling to introduce the novel’s themes of identity, awakening, and self-discovery to younger readers.
