LOGLINE
Two girls from different social worlds discover friendship through shared reading, storytelling, and a handmade book in Joseon-era Korea, where stories build bridges.
SYNOPSIS
In Joseon-era Korea, Yeon lives in a house overflowing with books, while Sooni comes from a very different social world. At first, Sooni simply waits beside her book-loving friend, but curiosity soon draws her into the stories too. As the girls read together, exchange observations, and begin creating stories of their own, books become a bridge across differences in class and circumstance. When Sooni gathers Yeon’s discarded pages and turns them into a handmade book to share with other children, their quiet friendship blossoms into creative partnership. A warm celebration of literacy, imagination, friendship, and the power of stories to create community.

AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY
Ji Hyun-kyung is a Korean illustrator and picture-book creator whose work spans both original picture books and illustrations for children’s literature. She has illustrated titles including Butterfly Princess and has written and illustrated Books. Her visual storytelling often draws on historical settings, material culture, and the tactile qualities of objects such as paper, books, clothing, and architecture. In Books, she uses the world of Joseon-era reading to explore friendship across class differences, the joy of discovering stories, and the impulse to create and share books oneself. Her illustrations give the historical setting warmth and immediacy while keeping the emotional focus on two young readers.
